i'd really like to have this installed but it brings my newer-ish MBP w/ 4g to it's knees. if you're just browsing the web and reading email you probably won't notice, but if you stress your system in any way, forget it. file system access times and memory usage went way up.
well, $50 down to drain.
everything i've read says the only reason to have antivirus software on your mac is to avoid passing on email-based viruses to PC users.

Norton AntiVirus v.11.0 works great for my PPC G5 Mac running 10.4.11. It installed without any issues, and it's cheap insurance considering all the threats on the Internet. I haven't found any viruses yet, but I do transfer files from my Win XP system - there I've found several in the past year. Bottom line - good peace of mind.

This software works but it really really really slow. Really really really slow. Slows my new imac to a crawl and the slowest of antivirus scans I've ever seen. Just changed over from the PC world and as a creature of habit keep antivirus installed. All the antivirus authors seem to have free trials except Symantec. There are no virus' for OS X.
The only malware was a trojan that the user had to download from a porn site, run and give it your admin password. This would not have stopped it.
If you feel you must use AV software to protect windows users you share files with, get something better like the free ClamX av.
Norton is the only product I ever installed that hosed OS X-constant kernel panics until I uninstalled it.
