Amazon.com:
Created for the 20th anniversary of the popular Robotech continuity, The Shadow Chronicles Movie picks up where 85-episode series ended. In 2044 A.D., humanity is at war with the alien Invid, who occupy most of the Earth. The Invid ruler takes her people to "a higher plane" to escape the Children of the Shadows, aliens dedicated to the destruction of any race that possesses Protoculture. (Illogically, they fear the power of Protoculture, but they can destroy its users.) New characters and ones from the original series battle the Children of Shadows until a cliffhanger ending that makes it clear a sequel must be in production.

Although it helped to create the audience for anime in America, the original Robotech was an anomaly: a Japanese show that never aired in Japan. Producers at Harmony Gold edited together the unrelated series Super Dimension Fortress: Macross, Genesis Climber Mospeada, and Super-dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross. The Shadow Chronicles Movie is also an anomaly: an "anime" feature made primarily in the U.S. and Korea. Although they've added lots of flashy CG effects to the space battles, the film lacks the qualities that made the series a hit. Like Star Wars, Robotech used an interstellar conflict as a backdrop for a tale about friendship, romance, and heroism. The filmmakers spend the first half-hour of Shadow Chronicles filling in background material for new viewers; the rest is so packed with exposition and action, there's no time to get to know the characters--or care about them. The movie will appeal primarily to fans of the series and its manifestations in games, toys, novels, etc. (Rated TV PG, suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Robotech - The Shadow Chronicles Movie
This was a great start to the end of the Robotech Macross Saga DVDs. It's an excellent movie, with great action. It follows in the tradition of the Robotech series. It leaves many questions unanswered and leaves you waiting for the series to continue. However, the series has never been finished. In spite of this, I highly recommend this movie to all Robotech fans.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Horrible
The story didn't make any sense; story development and dialogues are mundane and borning. The character and mecha designs are second rate at best... The animation is definitely a poor imitation of the true Anime style. I only gave it 1 star because Amazon required it. ( I wish they gave me the choice of a -5 stars) I might have enjoyed this if I was a 5 year old... On second thought, no, I think I was much smarter than that even when I was 5.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great, but it'll leave you wanting more
If you're a Robotech fan, you'll love/hate this movie. You'll love it because after decades of no Robotech, Harmony Gold finally got around to producing this movie. It begins right after the Invid leave Earth in the third series (I can't remember the english title, but it was the one based on the Japanese Mospeda series). The problem is that the movie was made with sequals in mind so when the movie ends, there are a lot of unanswered questions left. Hopefully, we don't have to wait another 20 ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - COuld've been a lot better...
Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles has some very nice eye candy, as far as the combat sequences are concerned. One might wish that the whole original series was redone with the computer-generated graphics and effects.

But, Harmony Gold has not given up its belief in painful dialog and confusing story lines... it's difficult, at best, to follow what happens in this story without knowing the previous story lines.

Also, the story leaves you hanging for more, with the ending of ... Read More

I have read lot of negetive reviews of this movie so i thought id add my two cnets ok this movie served to perpuse's tieing up the loose ends from the exsisting story and introduicing a new arc and new charecters which to me this movie did well now to those that griped about this movie saying it wasnt Robotech or dident have that classic Robotech feel I say what was missing ??? It had the love story of scott and Ariel the sweeping orchestra soundtrack and epic space battles sounds like Robotech ... Read More
