Product Description: Life’s tough for Dexter Morgan. It’s not easy being the world’s only serial killer with a conscience, especially when you work for the Miami police. To avoid suspicion, Dexter’s had to slip deep into his disguise: spending time with his girlfriend and her kids, slowly becoming the world’s first serial killing couch potato.
Then a particularly nasty psychopath starts cutting a trail through Miami — a killer whose twisted techniques leave even Dexter speechless. When his sister Deborah, a tough-as-nails cop, is drawn into the case, it becomes clear that Dexter will have to do come out of hiding and hunt the monster down. Unless, of course, the killer finds him first. . .

I am so glad that I was introduced to the tv show before I started to read the books. The show is better and keeps getting better while the first book was good, the second was just very boring. If I had read the books first I would not have watched the show.

I was a fan of the Showtime series first and wanted to know the genesis. Now I'm a fan of both. They are inter-changeable though not identical; i.e. one doesn't spoil the other. I like the character better in the TV series, he's more cute(ish) and less obsessional. Dexter's ruminations in the novel are sometimes tedious and his self obsession with alliteration is too much. BUT, it's a fun read and if you like the show, you'll like the book. .

The first book is genius, and the first season of Dexter on Showtime is based heavily on it.
The second book is a major departure from the second season of Dexter. The two are barely comparable. So, don't buy this book if you want it to be close to that.
However, that said, the book really is very good. The author plays with characters in ways that many authors are afraid to. Death, being maimed, and serious issues plague the characters that you may have come to love in ... Read More

Again, another great book. Dexter is a wonderful character. All I can say is that Jeff Lindsay does it again!

I am a huge Dexter fan. If you are discovering Dexter because of the TV show, you will be pleasantly surprised as the books do differ in the plot than the TV show!
Dexter is the serial killer you root for, as he tracks down really bad guys and disposes of them in a way the police cannot!
